Don’t rain on their parade in summer

Lack of water is a global problem, although to listen to weather forecasters you wouldn’t think so.

This afternoon a bloke on one of the FM stations was rabbiting on about how the weather’s warming up and how it’s going to be great weather for some street parade this weekend.

Yeah, right.

With dwindling rainfall, wouldn’t you think they’d be saying: “oh, another lousy weekend without any rain coming up”?

It’s almost a throwaway line that hot, rain-less weather is good. It’s how we’ve been socially conditioned here in Oz – to weekends of sand, surf and sunshine.

Maybe it’s time we started to reverse the notion that rain is a nuisance.

Ah, but we’d rain on parades if we did that.

I wonder if other people are like Australians when it comes to the weather?
