Olympics scoring system

I reckon a fairer system of determining a nation’s overall performance at the Olympics is to award points on a 3-2-1 basis for gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

Based on gold medals won, on Sunday, Australia was fifth on the traditional medal table, behind China, the US and Great Britain.

However, if the 3-2-1 rule was applied we would have been 10 points ahead of Great Britain in third position, behind China and the US.
