Michael Phelps notable by absence

If there was one thing that made me cringe during the Olympics, it was Channel 7’s appalling coverage.

From over-worked cliches, to embarrassing stereotypes of Chinese (on the Yum Cha program) Channel 7 outdid itself on crassness: not to mention covering things like our lives depended on Australia having to win gold and set world records in everything.

Then again, the Olympics are now mostly a window display of crass commercialism.

This was starkly obvious in Michael Phelps’ absence from the closing ceremony. Apparently he was in London for “commercial obligations”.

This really makes a mockery of the Olympic ideals. I would have thought he could take you suck if you’ve chosen money over people.
