I’ve become increasingly angry at the growing commercialisation of ANZAC Day.
Let’s forget the pathetic marketing of associating football games with trench warfare and mateship.
The latest abomination is the RSL and Peter Cosgrove’s promotion of something called “Raise A Glass”.
I’m not interested in what it’s about, because it’s sponsored by an alcohol company. As if many Vietnam Veterans don’t have enough to worry about then the RSL endorsing this idiotic promotion.
I am good friends with a Vietnam Vet, and his problem is alcohol, fuelled by the nightmare that was Vietnam.
Read Liz Porter’s take on it in The Age, “Cry ANZAC and let slip the metaphors of war”.
